Finishing Things Up Part 2

I've been mostly working on miscellaneous projects. I've been trying to finish up painting my Skaven spearhead, paint up the printed Malefactor, and kitbashing some fun stuff all the while!

So it's mostly just a showcase for fun things. Let's start with the kitbashes. As I mentioned in the Rat Babies intro post, I've been converting all my Skaven into pirates! For now, it's just a spearhead army, but I'm hoping to play some AoS with it in the future. To that end, I'm whipping up some Gnaw Holes to look like tide pools, I thought that was really fun. Also, with some bits and a prayer, I kitbashed up a Warlock Galvaneer and Master Moulder models, for some cheap points on the table.

The starfish was a really fun touch, I enjoyed scratchbuilding this one. Just two more to go! I'll probably go back and add some glow effects with the airbrush later.

 In addition to kitbashing new things, I've always been converting and painting the base models that came with the spearhead army. Here's one of the stormfiends, the only one painted right now. I think the one with the shock gauntlets. 

And then here's the Warp Cannon. I had a lot of fun with this, trying to dress it up to look like a pirate cannon, complete with cannonballs. This was also the first model I've ever airbrushed after completely painting, to add the glow effects to the warpstone. It was incredibly nerve racking, and I held the airbrush pointing at the model for a good minute while summoning the courage to go for it. 

Finally, the piece de resistance. I'd had the Malefactor printed out for a while, but it took a minute to get to painting it. Once I did, something just clicked, and I focused hard on it. This is a total brag, but I would probably call this my best paint job ever.  

Anyway, there's my recent projects. I might make a tutorial for the gnaw-holes, while I painted them up to look like tidepools and made wood like more dock-like, it's a really easy process and fun too. So I guess be on the lookout for that! Thanks for reading

Epic-Scale Tyranid Hierophant, But It's Big

Over Thanksgiving break, I was invited to play a "Tanksgiving" 40k event at my FLGS, where folks were encouraged to bring their massive war machines and the largest creatures to duke it out in an immense 5000 point game. Since I'm primarily interested in Tyranids, I only have a random, small selection of what could be considered "Tanks" - A Predator tank and a Thousand-sons conversion of a Dreadnought. I had a blast, but definitely wished I could have brought something larger to bear, and also in the flavor of Xenos. Since then, I've picked up a Winged Hive Tyrant, but I've always gazed at envy at the Forge World Tyranid Heirophant.  So of course I made one!

Building the Castle Stalgar

 I usually don't do terrain but this one just kept coming together well I felt compelled to keep going on it. It took probably three months or so, but that was intermittent in between smaller things. Still, this is probably one of the larger things I've made for a while, and it was really fun!

Rat Babies

A few weekends ago (vague because since I can't post things on time ever) I was invited by some very nice folks to play in a Spearhead tournament at my FLGS. Interestingly, I did not know how to play, but they were willing to provide an army and teach me the rules beforehand! I said yes, since it seemed like a nice afternoon. Moral of the story is that's how they get you - I had such a great time that I picked up a box of Spearhead Skaven so I could continue to play with folks.
