Mordheim Warband - Deep-Crypt Seekers
Some folks at my FLGS invited me to join in a Mordheim campaign, so I sculpted up some custom skaven and printed them out and painted them! It's been a blast so far.
So, here's a group shot first, for the thumbnail!

Then, here's the sculpting. I spend a lot of time building up a poseable parts library, using mostly custom sculpts but the faces came from some random "rat warrior" stl kit from somewhere. I also grabbed some miscellaneous weapons from opengameart, and reused a rat skull I'd made before somewhere. I also tried chains and rope for the first time, which was really tricky, both to model and print.

Once I finished the library, I got to putting together the critters themselves. A friend printed them out for me, which was really helpful! The first batch came out a little wonky, so they took a second try. I don't have any pictures of them unpainted, so here's the full roster, completely finished.
The backstory for them is that - Skaven live underground, skittering around under the surface of the earth. These are the skaven that live underneath them, that gnaw at the roots of the world, deep down, in the lost tombs long buried and the caverns and fissures that glow with darkness. A depth where humanity has long-forgotten, that dwarves dare not tread, where monstrous things slither and fester in the abyss. They're searching for something they're not sure what, and they have always gone deeper.
When the meteor struck Mordheim, and they rose from the depths to claim their fallen god.

Kratak Gravebearer, my Assassin Adept. She carries a "spear", and has on armor fashioned from a grave of some long-forgotten evil warlock. Candles adorn her, and she wears the bones of several of her kin for armor and weapons.

Skerra Long-bones, my Black Skaven with a flail. Encased in the massive weapon is the head of some long-dead human king, preserved and fixed to witness every bloody swing.

Mar Iron-taker, my Black Skaven with a sword and coffin-lid shield. The sword is fashioned from a fang from one of the massive blind snakes of the deep - not while alive, of course. The light armor on his back is from some forgotten mausoleum, repurposed to make him slightly more dangerous to swallow whole.

Kwill Dream-eater, my Eshin Sorceror. I was inspired by Gul'dan from Warcraft, and the monsters from that old movie, "The Village". They're blessed by the horned rat, great spikes bursting forth from their back. They wear a bright red cloak to hide themselves, and adorn themselves with chains and bones from their fallen brethren.

Andeth and Oleth Sharpeye. These twin night runners both wield a "warplock pistol", pictured here as a warp-stone tipped crossbow for theming. They hide behind shields, and are the barrage team, climbing into hard to reach places and sniping at enemies.
I also have a bunch of Giant Rats, pictured in the family photo up top. They're mostly interchangeable, except one of them knocked two enemy combatants out of action with some unusually lucky rolls. Maybe I'll put a piece of cheese or warpstone or a skull near that one. Look out!
Anyway, thanks for reading!
