Tyrant Mechanicus List

I've talked about the inspiration and the backstory for my Tyrant Mechanicus Tyranids in previous posts, but here's the (current) list of all the units in it, with some fun anecdotes as needed. I'll try to update it as my army changes!

Hormagaunts

These were originally intended to be part of a kill team. The first build of them, with a green/brown color scheme only had visor helmets and a few small bits. Later, I did a pass of adding more decorations and variations to the bits during the repaint to a Hive Fleet Leviathan color scheme.

Dual chainswords for arms!

This time almost everyone gets a backpack

Warriors

These are mostly the same as above, originally for a Kill team, and added kitbashed bits and repainted recently. Since they were built for Kill Team, I built two with ranged weapons and one with melee, which was valid wargear for that game. However, in 10th edition (as far as I know) that's slightly less valid anymore. So know they just bring along their friend who obstensibly has spinefists but not really. Someday I'll get another kit of warriors and built 2 melee and 1 ranged to shuffle them around to be street legal.

Both of these got repainted and had more bits glues on, pictures of that incoming

I tried to keep the "Venom Cannon" silhouette with a battle-axe blade from my bits box

Lictor/Deathleaper

The last of the original Kill team models, it was a 4th edition Deathleaper. However, Kill team calls for a Lictor instead, so I call it that or a Deathleaper kind of interchangeably. Because it's older, it doesn't have the little skirt that modern Deathleapers do, but under all those bits, it's a legal, resin GW model. So take that, tournament rules. Also it's got crap glued on everywhere. I really love this kitbash, it's got a great visor, a little radar dish for secret things, and massive vibro-blades for cutting apart enemies.

Oh, and it's named Mr. Wiggles.

Winged Hive Tyrant

Their name is "Purple People Eater" because it is one-eyed, one-horned, flying,  and (among other things) likes to consume the raw twitching flesh of man. It's the warlord leader of my 10th Edition army, and is very often the main target of my opponent, both because it's impressive and scary, and I just love perching it on rooftops to fire into the enemy making it an easy target.

Raveners

Since I had quite a few bits leftover from the warriors and winged hive tyrant, I realized I had enough to kitbash something... Something like a warrior, but with a tail... Ah, Raveners! Although I had a few bits, I definitely didn't have enough across the board, so I got creative. I had to cast and mold a few of head and chest carapaces, but only a few. Honestly, I wish I casted a few more of each thing, to make them match a little bit more. But oh well. Eventually I'll get some non-kitbashed Ravs and therefore have more raveners, since they've carried a few games of mine. Also, since they're good at digging, they get construction-yellow drills on their hands!

Screamer-Killer

Much like the Raveners, flush with excitement for kitbashing, I noticed I also had a pair of hooves (since I made the flying Hive tyrant variant), two large scything claws, and a head. I decided to just go for it, sculpting the entire torso from oven-bake clay and aluminum foil, and using some reaper bones parts to pad out the secondary claws. I think I could have done a better job posing and proportioning - I think my screamer killer has a bit of a beer belly - but also it makes him my own, and even if/when I get a real one, I'll keep this one around.

This one doesn't have a name (yet), but he should have one for sure.

A rare action shot, chomping on some T'au after finishing off a tasty Ghostkeel

Zoanthrope Prime Objective Marker

Again, awash with the thrill of kit bit bashing, I set out confidently to build a Zoanthrope! Nothing stood in my way - not even having the wrong size base, not even the fact that a unit has three of them, not even the fact that they're about half this size.

But I had leftovers! The tail is from the Winged Hive Tyrant, the hoofed variant, and the back and head spikes are various Tyranid bits from misc models. The core of the build was an Alien Queen Toy's Head, which was a weird spongy plastic, but made a great carapace. I then stuck some stuff on the back, trying out an idea I'd had for a while to make the more synaptic creatures of the Tyrant Mechanicus into comms beasts with radar and stuff.

It's a cool model, but I think it's mostly only suited for being an objective marker, since there aren't really tabletop rules for it. I call it a Zoanthrope Prime because it's bigger.
