Gem-Spiders for Mordheim Witches

Image
A while back I was siezed by an intense need for making minis which I'm still riding into my Warhammer stuff. I really enjoy watching videos by Trent from Miscast - I really admire his loose, artistic style - and he talks a often about the no-longer-supported GW game Mordheim and how it's sort of a no-rules-only-right style. The way he approaches miniature making from a player- and creative- first perspective is so refreshing. So I got inspired!

Tyrant Mechanicus List

I've talked about the inspiration and the backstory for my Tyrant Mechanicus Tyranids in previous posts, but here's the (current) list of all the units in it, with some fun anecdotes as needed. I'll try to update it as my army changes!

Tyrant Mechanicus Inspiration

Sometime in 2016 or 2017, I was part of a workplace Warhammer league thing. The goal was that we all would get a Kill team, who's rules were newly released and exciting, and build them during designated lunches with each other. Then, once everyone's were built and painted, we'd skirmish amongst ourselves. Sounds fun, right? Well, one by one, everybody kind of wandered off. That's the way these things go, though. So I came up with my own unique twist.

Digital Sculpting Sunflowers with Legs

I've had a nostalgic itch recently (which is funny because I didn't get into Warhammer 40k until like 2017), but I absolutely adore the camp, the kitsch, the genuineness of the older models. Unfortunately, they're insanely expensive, since, I don't know, they've been out of production for thirty years or whatever.

This is fluff lore for my kill-team turned primary Tyranid army, the "Tyrant Mechanicus".

Epic-Scale Tyranid Hierophant, But It's Big

Over Thanksgiving break, I was invited to play a "Tanksgiving" 40k event at my FLGS, where folks were encouraged to bring their massive war machines and the largest creatures to duke it out in an immense 5000 point game. Since I'm primarily interested in Tyranids, I only have a random, small selection of what could be considered "Tanks" - A Predator tank and a Thousand-sons conversion of a Dreadnought. I had a blast, but definitely wished I could have brought something larger to bear, and also in the flavor of Xenos. Since then, I've picked up a Winged Hive Tyrant, but I've always gazed at envy at the Forge World Tyranid Heirophant.  So of course I made one!
